Abstract

The aim of this study was to reveal the attitudes of preparatory year students at Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University (IAU) towards community responsibility. The study tool prepared by the researchers consisted of a community responsibility ( : - scale of 45 paragraphs across four areas: environment, education, social solidarity, - ) 45 and citizenship and affiliation. The study population consisted of 694 students 694 enrolled in the health, engineering, and scientific fields during the second semester 2019 ( )351 ()343 of 2019. Participants were subdivided into groups of 351 high-achieving students . and 343 Mediterranean students, and were further categorised by gender. The mean response score was high, indicating that students generally placed a high importance on citizenship and affiliation, which was ranked highest, followed in order by social solidarity, environment, and education. The results showed no statistically significant differences in attitudes towards community responsibility attributed to the effect of academic program or gender across all domains, except for the category of citizenship and affiliation, which was ranked higher by high- ( \ ) achieving males. The findings indicate the necessity of increasing effective activities in education to improve students' attitudes towards social responsibility. .
